Ömer Emre Yavuz’s exhibition at the independent art space Non.Sight, located in Block 6 of the İMÇ, sheds light on the transformation in the artist’s practice from 2023 to the present.
This transformation reveals an internal dialogue between the artist and the materials and objects encountered in everyday life, unfolding through a process grounded in intuition and discovery. Throughout this process, an approach emerges that does not impose dominance over form but instead allows space for the material’s own intrinsic rhythm. This approach parallels a mode of thinking aligned with the infinite flow of nature—one without a beginning or end, existing in a constant state of becoming and transformation.
In the works shaped by the possibilities of materials, the tensions that arise do not imitate a gesture, an action, or a movement; they simply are what they are. In this way, the notion of art within the works remains suspended at the extreme edge of these tensions, in the idea of their eventual disappearance over time. These works, grounded in impermanence, are in fact the result of an in-depth exploration of the relationship between form and process, action and effect.
In the artist’s attempts to shape form through breath, this condition acquires another dimension. In these works, breath can be read both as a tool that gives form to the material and as a metaphor for the creation of a kind of mental space.
For Yavuz, art is not merely the production of an object, but a focus on the processes of making, unmaking, and remaking. The viewer is invited not to remain a passive observer of this transformation, but to become an active participant who engages with it. Each work exists as a unique and temporary manifestation of the relationship between material, space, and viewer.
